Mentoring Collaborative

Join the Mentoring Collaborative

Overview:

Departments in the SOM are encouraged to send a team to participate in the inaugural SOM Mentoring Collaborative. Participating teams will refine an existing or implement a new mentoring program within their department using knowledge gained through peer learning and education. In addition, teams will:

  • Hear best practices, lessons learned, barriers, and quick wins from peers.

  • Gain access to SOM tools and resources for developing local mentoring program. 

  • Learn from content experts on a variety of mentoring topics

Register

Time Commitment:

Over the course of 18-months, teams will participate in four half-day, in-person learning sessions at the SOM, dates TBD. Teams will work locally between each learning session towards meeting their specific project goals. In addition to peer networking, learning, and sharing, each session will include education on a mentoring topic such as mentorship models, creating a culture of mentoring and structuring mentoring relationships.

Teams:

Teams should include 3-6 people inclusive of a faculty leader, a jr. faculty member for pipeline development and a coordinator/admin support.

Expectations:

Teams accepted into the collaborative must:

  • Commit to attending all learning sessions (at least half of each team should be present),
  • Actively participate sharing knowledge and experience with peers,
  • Conduct and provide responses from a baseline mentoring needs assessment,
  • Work as a team between learning sessions to implement and/or refine a local mentoring program,
  • Provide check ins during learning sessions and a final report out at the end of the cycle, and
  • Serve as as coaches for teams in the following collaborative.
