November 1, 2024 | Throughout this week we have recognized many faculty members for their remarkable achievements. As we wrap up this year’s Faculty Recognitions Week, I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to all our outstanding faculty members. It is a true honor to recognize and celebrate your eminence and contributions to the School of Medicine mission.

October 28, 2024 | I am excited to kick off my first Faculty Recognitions Week in the School of Medicine – a special time dedicated to celebrating the outstanding contributions of our faculty in the realms of patient care, research, and education.  

September 13, 2024 | Today we celebrate Researcher Appreciation Day, a chance to shine a spotlight on the incredible work of researchers and celebrate the amazing contributions that make our school a leader in biomedical research. 

September 11, 2024 | Effective January 1, 2025, Dr. Scott Boden will assume the new position of Chief Partnership and Innovation Officer (CPIO) for the Woodruff Health Sciences Center (WHSC). I want to congratulate Dr. Boden on this exciting new chapter of his career and thank him for his exemplary leadership in the Departmentof Orthopaedics and across the School of Medicine. 

September 4, 2024 | After an extensive national search, I am pleased to announce Shari Barkin, MD, MSHS has accepted the position of chair of the Department of Pediatrics effective Dec. 2, 2024. She will also serve as Pediatrician in Chief at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

August 19, 2024 | Thanks to all who have completed this year’s engagement survey. If you haven’t completed it, I hope you’ll consider sharing your feedback before the survey closes on August 26 at 11:59 p.m.

July 29, 2024 | After more than 11 years of dedicated service, Martin G. Sanda, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Urology, has announced that he will step down as chair.

July 24, 2024 | We write today to share that Andrew (Drew) Patterson, MD, PhD, will be stepping down from his role as Chair, Department of Anesthesiology, effective August 31, 2024.

July 22, 2024 | As I’ve been meeting faculty, staff and learners across the SOM, a topic that comes up frequently is communication--and for good reason. Effective communication is critical to achieving our goals and furthering our mission.

July 11, 2024 | I am writing to let you know that after more than 10 years of outstanding service in the School of Medicine Dean’s Office, our valued colleague Zainab Harvey has decided to step away. Zainab’s last day at Emory will be August 2, 2024. 

June 10, 2024 | This week, our university celebrates Staff Fest 2024, an annual recognition event to thank Emory University staff members for your hard work throughout the academic year. During this time, I am reminded that the heart of any institution lies in its people, and this sentiment resonates profoundly within our school community. The contributions of our SOM staff touch the lives of our learners, faculty, patients and the wider community in ways both profound and lasting.

June 5, 2024 | I am pleased to announce that Ravi Rajani, MD, professor of surgery, has accepted the role of Executive Associate Dean (EAD), Emory at Grady, effective June 1, 2024. 

June 4, 2024 | Today, we celebrate you—our skilled and compassionate faculty educators—by recognizing Educator Appreciation Day. The SOM Recognitions Committee received more than 170 nominations, and selected honorees who best exemplify our shared values. 

June 3, 2024 | We’d like to express our sincere gratitude to our clinical faculty and staff, as many of you worked through the weekend under challenging circumstances due to city-wide water main breaks.

May 20, 2024 | This week marks the School of Medicine’s third annual Diversity and Inclusion Week, themed From Being to Belonging. Diversity and Inclusion Week serves as a platform for us to engage in meaningful conversations, reflect on our progress and continued challenges and explore ways to create a more inclusive campus environment.  

April 1, 2024 | On March 22, we welcomed Sandra Wong, MD, MS, as dean of the School of Medicine. Dean Wong answered a few questions about her leadership style, her passion for health care delivery, and being the first female dean of Emory School of Medicine.
