Dr. Vanessa Fleites is an Assistant Director in the Office of Multicultural Affairs, Learner Diversity Programs for the Health Professions. In this role, she supports learners in the School of Medicine’s health professions programs, specifically Medical Imaging, Anesthesiology Assistant, Genetic Counseling, the Division of Physical Therapy, and Physician Assistant program. She is also the OMA liaison for the Latino Student Medical Association (LMSA).
Fleites manages Emory’s Health Professions Readiness Education Program (HealthPREP) summer program. HealthPREP is supported through the National HCOP Academy and is an 8-week program that provides students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds the skills needed to increase their competitiveness for admissions to health-related medical, graduate and professional schools.
Dr. Fleites obtained her Associate’s degree in Psychology from the Miami Dade Honors College, and her Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience from the University of Miami. She then earned her Ph.D. in Neuroscience at the University of Pennsylvania. During her time in graduate school, Dr. Fleites was a fellow in the Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Learner (IDEAL) Research office in the Biomedical Graduate Program at UPenn and held leadership positions in several student organizations focused on individuals traditionally underrepresented in STEM.
