About
The Section of Adolescent Medicine at Emory School of Medicine is dedicated to advancing the health and wellbeing of adolescents and young adults through research, education, advocacy, and clinical care. Our team conducts research on adolescent preventive health services to shape evidence-based practices. We provide specialized clinical care addressing the unique physical, emotional, and social needs of young people during this critical developmental period. Through our robust teaching programs, we train the next generation of healthcare providers in adolescent-specific care while advocating for policies that support youth health in our communities and beyond.
Research
Dr. Samantha Hill leads innovative studies on sexual health, with a particular emphasis on vulnerable youth populations. Dr. Holly Gooding focuses on cardiovascular risk prevention, examining the establishment of heart healthy habits during this formative period.
Education
Our section is deeply committed to training the next generation of healthcare providers in the specialized care of adolescents. We provide core educational experiences for Emory and Morehouse medical students and residents through dedicated clinical rotations and didactic sessions focused on adolescent development, communication skills, and common health concerns.
Our comprehensive curriculum covers adolescent primary care, sexual and reproductive health, mental health assessment, and transition to adult centered care. Through mentorship opportunities, case-based learning, and supervised clinical experiences, we equip trainees with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver developmentally appropriate, evidence-based care to adolescents in diverse settings.
Clinical Care
Our clinical staff is experienced in caring for teens’ unique needs. At our Adolescent Medicine Practice at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Hughes Spalding, we offer a comprehensive array of primary and specialty services. We also see patients within the Gynecology Practice at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, the Ponce de Leon Center at Grady Health System, and Emory Student Health Services.
