Meet the Vice Chair for Faculty Development
Lynn O’Neill, MD, MS, FAAHPM serves as Vice-Chair of Faculty Development. Dr. O’Neill also currently serves our department as Associate Director of the Emory Palliative Care Center and Director of the Emory Hospice and Palliative Medicine Fellowship. A native of Tallahassee, Florida, Dr. O'Neill is a 1998 graduate of Emory College and a 2002 graduate of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. She completed a residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama Hospitals in Birmingham followed by fellowships in palliative care and geriatrics at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Her areas of expertise include developing and implementing training programs in communication skills. In her role as Vice Chair of Faculty Development, Dr. O'Neill works with faculty across the Department both individually and corporately with goals of highlighting current strengths and achievements and helping facilitate the Department to reach even greater heights.
Department Awards
Dr. O'Neill chairs the department's Awards and Recognitions Committee which works to recognize excellence in our faculty and staff by sponsoring annual awards for faculty and staff.
Every year, Department of Family and Preventive Medicine faculty and staff are nominated for annual department awards. Self-nomination is allowed in all categories except for mentoring awards. Faculty are eligible for awards recognizing their teaching, service, and research accomplishments. Staff are eligible for individual and team awards recognizing their valuable role in supporting the mission of our department. Faculty and staff can be nominated for the "Dreamwork" team-based award and the Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Champion award.
In addition, every year, our faculty are nominated for Emory School of Medicine recognitions such as Hidden Gem and Clinical Distinctions. Individual divisions and programs also recognize faculty and staff excellence with annual awards. Read more about our faculty and staff recognitions.
Faculty Development Programs
Career Conference and Performance Reviews
The Career Conference and Performance Review (CCPR) is a professional development and performance review that is required for regular faculty members who hold a primary appointment in the department and shall be conducted using the online faculty evaluation form. The annual review shall be based on performance in the areas of teaching, scholarship, and service, and is intended to promote the discussion of performance and future goals between a faculty member and their supervisor.
Promotion and Tenure
Dr. O'Neill chairs the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine Promotion and Tenure Committee which offers promotion support for faculty through CV review sessions and promotion packet review opportunities. More information about support for current faculty in the department is available on the department intranet. The Emory School of Medicine also provides extensive resources and support for faculty promotion.
Mentoring
Dr. O'Neill and Dr. Tina-Ann Thompson coordinate a department-wide mentoring program.
