Award Descriptions
Individual Staff Awards
Stellar Service: This award recognizes a staff member who has gone above and beyond the routine call of duty during the year. Successful nominees exhibit a high level of commitment, initiative, cooperation, and dedication in their job responsibilities. These nominees are dependable and trustworthy, instill in their coworkers a sense of responsibility and dedication to the university, and exemplify excellence and integrity in workplace relationships, interactions, and decisions.
Outstanding Career Achievement: This award recognizes a staff member who has provided 5 or more years of service to the division/program/department, consistent and sustained excellence, exceptional performance, and service. These nominees demonstrate integrity, teamwork, productivity, and customer service.
Innovation Award: This award recognizes a staff member who has helped drive creativity and innovation in the areas of research, education, or service, resulting in increased efficiency, decreased costs, or increased customer satisfaction in the department. Examples of successful nominees would include staff members who have made innovative contributions to research lab operations and techniques, education program design and management, or administrative programs/processes.
Excellence in Leadership Award: This award recognizes a staff member for their exemplary leadership accomplishments and contributions to the department. Successful nominees are those who have led, served, inspired, and collaborated with broad-ranging impact beyond their regular responsibilities. Eligibility: All regular full‐time or part‐time staff members who are in leadership roles (i.e. supervise others) or have taken on a leadership role within a specific project/initiative.
Rising Star/Newcomer: This award recognizes a newly-hired staff member for his/her excellent support and exceptional performance during the first year of employment. Successful nominees are those who have made significant contributions within their work teams, division, the Department, and/or the School of Medicine despite being employed within the Department of Family and Preventive Medicine for one year or less.
Excellence in Research Support Award: recognizes a staff member who has displayed exceptional effort and made significant contributions in a role focused on research. Examples of successful nominees would include staff members who have gone above and beyond the normal call of duty to positively impact research studies/trials, provide guidance to less experienced clinical research staff, and support Principal Investigators/Study Sponsors. Eligible staff include clinical research coordinators, funded project coordinators, etc.
Team Staff Awards (2 or more staff members)
Team Excellence Award – Research/Science: recognizes a basic sciences, laboratory, or clinical research team (two or more staff members) that has achieved excellence, displayed innovation, or has made a significant impact within its designated field.
Team Excellence Award – Administration: recognizes an administrative team (two or more staff members) that has achieved excellence, displayed innovation, or has made a significant impact within its designated field.
Nomination Process
Eligibility: All regular full‐time or part‐time university staff members in DFPM are eligible unless they won the award in the previous award cycle.
Submission: One-page nomination letter (5000 character limit) including the name and contact information of the staff member being nominated and a concise narrative describing how the nominee exemplifies the qualities and values outlined above.
