Award Descriptions
Community Engagement and Advocacy Champion
This award is for a faculty or staff member who has made significant contributions to the Department's commitment to community engagement and advocacy.
Nominations should emphasize specific aspects of service, teaching, research, and/or citizenship that contribute to our goals. Outstanding examples of contributions can include, but are not limited to:
- Important administrative service to the Department in the area of inclusion, advocacy, and health equity
- Activities designed to achieve a diverse workforce or body of trainees
- Service to the community via public education programs or campaigns, volunteerism, or non-profit organizations
- Exemplary clinical service to underserved populations, colleagues, or the general public
- Educational efforts to prevent bias and promote inclusivity and health equity
- Development of new or innovative programs to promote community engagement and advocacy
- Impactful research aimed at identifying and addressing health disparities or the medical needs of underserved populations
- Efforts to eliminate health inequalities and improve health outcomes in disadvantaged and vulnerable populations.
Teamwork Makes the Dream Work Award (Team-Based Award for 2 or more faculty and staff members)
This award has been established by the Awards and Recognitions Committee of the department to recognize teams (of at least 2 members) of faculty and staff committed to a common purpose or goal towards advancing the mission and vision of the department and Emory School of Medicine.
Examples include but are not limited to:
- Multidisciplinary teams created to tackle an important clinical problem (including more than one specialty)
- A research team which has been created to engage with a specific topic
- Clinical team charged with caring for a particular patient population
- Administrative team charged with leadership and operations for a particular unit or program
Nomination Process
Nominations: Nominees can be self-nominate or be nominated by other faculty (including Service Chiefs or Division/Program Directors) or staff. Submissions should be made electronically and include a 5000-character max nomination narrative describing how the nominees exemplifies the qualities and values outlined above. The nomination narrative can be pasted into the nomination form or uploaded as a separate document. Nomination for this award does not preclude nomination for other DFPM awards in the same year.
