Award for Educational Leadership, Service, and Program Development
The DFPM Award for Educational Leadership, Service, and Program Development aims to recognize the work of educators who have made significant contributions to educational leadership, service, and program development at Emory and beyond. Awardees may have demonstrated strengths in the following areas:
- Creation of novel medical education programs, which use unique teaching methods, curricula, or assessment tools.
- A proven record of excellence in teaching in the classroom, small group, and/or bedside settings
- Instrumental roles in medical education within the Department, School of Medicine, or regional or national organizations.
- Excellence in medical education research.
- Service in national or regional professional organizations for medical educators.
Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching
The DFPM Award for Excellence in Classroom Teaching is to be awarded to the DPFM faculty member who exemplifies the following:
- Effective facilitation of learning among diverse learners in either the classroom and/or small group setting
- Excellence in developing curriculum and content for the classroom and/or small group setting
- Passion and enthusiasm in delivery of content and/or facilitation
The central importance of translating didactic content and skills practice to patient care in the clinical settings
Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching
The DFPM Award for Excellence in Clinical Teaching is to be awarded to the DPFM faculty member who exemplifies the following qualities and values:
- The central roles of humanism, professionalism and caring in patient care
- The primacy of the clinician-patient relationship in clinical teaching
- The importance and value of teaching at the bedside
- The critical value of bridging the gap between our research and educational missions
Nomination Process
Nominations: Nominees can be self-nominate or be nominated by other faculty (including Service Chiefs or Division/Program Directors) or staff. Submissions should be made electronically and include a 5000-character max nomination letter, which should include the name and contact information of the faculty member being nominated. Nomination for this award does not preclude nomination for other DFPM awards in the same year.
Submission: One page nomination letter (5000 character limit) including the name and contact information of the faculty member being nominated and a concise narrative describing how the nominee exemplifies the qualities and values outlined above.
