Mentoring Matters

Knowing someone who not only cares about your professional growth but who also has successfully navigated thesame career path makes a real difference. That's why we offer a range of mentoring programs for every stage of a faculty member's career. From the first days and months as a new faculty member through the promotion process and beyond, mentors provide support and guidance based on real-world experience.

Friday Morning Development Series

Our newest offering, the Friday Morning Development Series, fosters academic excellence while supporting career development. Each of the nine sessions features a panel of accomplished radiologists and imaging scientists who share practical insights, personal experiences, and actionable advice in key areas of academic development: service, teaching, and scholarship.

These hybrid sessions run from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Join us in person or via Zoom.

Mentoring Programs

One on One Mentoring Program

Our department offers a formal one-on-one mentoring program that pairs new faculty members with experienced mentors early in their career journey. It’s a great way to get personalized support from someone who understands the ropes and can help you grow in the direction you want to go. Your mentor will work with you to set goals, navigate challenges, and offer advice that’s tailored to your strengths and interests.

Mentoring Dinners

The Faculty Development Committee regularly hosts mentoring dinners to foster networking, mentorship, and sponsorship among faculty members. These gatherings help faculty navigate key aspects of career development, build lasting connections, and learn from colleagues’ journeys and insights. Themes, such as getting involved nationally, engaging in research, and work-life balance, given each dinner a distinct focus and appeal.

Dining with the Chair

On a monthly basis, our department chair hosts a small group of faculty members for dinner. These informal gatherings not only foster a lively exchange ideas, they also help strengthen the collegial sense of community that makes our department such a supportive place to professionally thrive.

"On Demand" Engagement through Connectogen

Connectogen (connectogen.com) is a dedicated platform designed to enhance academic engagements and facilitate collaborations across the entire Emory network. Accessible to anyone with an Emory-affiliated email, Connectogen serves as your centralized hub for research connections, mentorship opportunities, and academic partnerships—all in one place.

Key features of Connectogen:

Collaborative Opportunities: Engage with a dynamic community of 800+ users, featuring a growing number of active projects and mentorships from institutions such as Emory, Georgia Tech, Spelman, and Morehouse - with plans to include more! 
Research, Quality Improvement and Education Project Matching: Discover and apply to active projects with openings. Receive automated notifications for new project openings and collaborators that match your interests. The project listings are regularly updated to maintain current opportunities.
Mentorship: Utilize the mentorship features to find mentors in specific categories and for different types of sponsorships. Mentors can also actively search for mentees seeking guidance. Mentor-mentee interaction notes can be logged through the platform. 
Continuous Evolution: New features are continuously being integrated into the platform based on user feedback and evolving needs. Some new features include project and task management features, staff resource matching tools, academic output tracking, and interactive conference and meeting directories.
