The purpose and goal of the Clinical Distinctions program is to recognize faculty who have devoted a majority of their time and career to providing excellence in clinical care.
The conferral of a clinical distinction does not replace academic promotion. It can be in addition to promotion or stand alone.

Program Overview

The Clinical Distinctions program asks for documentation for four categories of achievement:
- Quality of Care and Patient Satisfaction
- Innovation
- Citizenship
- Administration (not required)
There are three levels of Clinical Distinction: Senior Physician, Distinguished Physician, and Eminent Physician.
Eligibility & Requirements
Regular School of Medicine clinical faculty who have a minimum 0.5 FTE and devote at least half of their time to clinical efforts (patient care and clinical administration) are eligible for these distinctions. Emory Healthcare faculty, as well as those faculty working at Emory academic affiliates (e.g., Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, Grady Memorial Hospital, the Atlanta VA Medical Center), also are eligible for the program.
In general, the process takes approximately one year to prepare, review, and receive notification about your application portfolio. The following outlines the key steps and timeline associated with the Clinical Distinctions process.
