History
GHOPE was established in 2008 to respond to the rising interest of Emory pediatric residents, fellows, and faculty in global health. Initially a grass roots effort, GHOPE stood for “Global Health Organization of Pediatrics at Emory.” In 2011, a formal global health track for pediatric residents was launched in the Department of Pediatrics to ensure that all pediatric residents receive an introduction to global child health and to provide opportunities for those seeking more formal global health education. Over the last 10 years, the Global Health Track has trained 22 global health track residents; hosted regular lectures, biannual grand rounds, and an annual “global health week;” built sustained international and domestic partnerships; and helped recruit multiple trainees and faculty committed to global health. In January of 2020, GHOPE was re-launched as the Global Health Office of Pediatrics to serve the needs of faculty, fellows, residents, and students across the Emory + Children’s Pediatric Institute.
