
Partnership Highlights
Kenya (research only)

Emory faculty have long partnered with researchers at the Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) on childhood mortality surveillance work and clinical prediction modeling studies. Dr. Rees’ work on identifying young children at risk for post-discharge mortality in Kenya has been supported by the US National Institutes of Health and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. Dr. Rule is focusing on maternal-newborn implementation science as part of the safe+natal team.
Peru

Funded through a generous donation from Emory Faculty Emeritus, Dr. Steves. Emory faculty are working alongside the Peruvian Ministry of Health to address childhood anemia. Trainees with Spanish fluency may opt to do an elective at a teaching hospital, as well as particpate in ongoing research projects.

Clarkston, GA
60,000 refugees have been resettled in Georgia over the past 30 years and many of them first stop is in Clarkston, GA. Clarkston is known as the most ethnically diverse square mile in the US. It is10 minutes from Emory University and the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta campus. GHOPE faculty and trainees have a myriad advocacy, research, and education initiatives in Clarkston. In addition, multiple GHOPE and CHOA faculty are working on a collaborative project to improve sub-specialty referrals for refugee families.

Indian Health Service (education only)
The GHOPE residency track has had a longstanding history of sending residents to learn alongside IHS pediatricians for a clinical elective.
