We’re so glad you’re considering applying to the Emory Emergency Medicine Residency Program
The best way to get to know whether Emory and Grady are the best places for you to train is to do a visiting clerkship with us. However, we understand that a lot of factors go into where students can do an away rotation. We offer various other opportunities to get to know us throughout the year. Come see us at the ACEP and SAEM residency fairs or follow us on Instagram (@emory.em.residency) to participate in one of our many live events leading up to interview season. You can also follow the Department on X, Bluesky, and Facebook for Department-wide news and updates!
Applying to Emory EM
All applications for the 2025-2026 year will be accepted through the new ResidencyCAS service as the entire specialty of Emergency Medicine is transitioning away from ERAS this year. Ranking will remain through NRMP using our main program code 1113110C0.
We will begin reviewing applications on October 1, 2025, and will offer initial interview invites as part of the nationally coordinated county program invitation date on October 21. We will maintain a small rolling wait list after that date.
Some important things to know about applying to Emory EM:
-
We feel strongly that a holistic approach to reviewing an applicant’s entire portfolio is the most effective way to embrace the diversity and strength of each applicant ensuring that those selected to interview have the best chance for fulfillment and success in our program
-
We require a passing score on Step 1 of USMLE or Level 1 of COMLEX. We do not require DO applicants to have USMLE scores. We strongly recommend that anyone with prior academic concerns or struggles with Step 1 have a passing Step 2 score at the time of application. We also encourage applicants to share special circumstances that affected their academic progress in relevant areas of the application
-
We prefer two SLOEs from clinical emergency medicine rotations. We will review applications with only one SLOE understanding that some may not have access to a second by October 1. Applicants who have not demonstrated the ability to succeed on an EM rotation within the U.S. healthcare system are unlikely to be offered an interview
-
We do support J-1 visas and, rarely, H-1B visas
-
We welcome applicants from the fullest diversity of backgrounds, including those with differing abilities, and will work to provide all reasonable accommodations as per Emory’s policy

Interviews
Interviews run from November through January and will remain virtual only. While we would love for all applicants to be able to meet us in person and tour the Grady and Emory EDs, we feel strongly that the benefit of meeting candidates in person does not justify the financial burden shouldered by students during in person interviews. On interview day, interviewees will meet with an APD, a faculty member, and a resident for 15 minutes each and 5 minutes with the PD. Residents will be available for questions throughout the day and at a virtual social one evening during the week of the scheduled interview date. Second looks will be available in person in early February, once our rank list is finalized. Participation in second looks will not impact an applicant’s placement on the rank list and is intended to give an applicant a better feel for the program if desired.
If you have a residency question that you can't find an answer to on the web pages or on Instagram, please submit your question for the Residency team via this Qualtrics form. Thank you for your interest in Emory Emergency Medicine.
