An Emory Healthcare neurosurgery team completed what is believed to be the world’s first continuously navigated endoscopic spine fusion, advancing a minimally invasive approach to lower spine surgery.

The National Academy of Inventors named Steven. H Liang, Emory School of Medicine associate professor, to its 2026 class of Senior Members. The honor is the highest professional distinction solely for inventors.

The award honors living surgeons who have innovated a new development or technique in any field of surgery. Christian P. Larsen, executive director of Emory Transplant Center, is internationally recognized for transforming organ rejection prevention.
