Inclusive Excellence, Belonging and Community Engagement

The department has created an infrastructure to advance inclusive excellence, belonging and community engagement within our department and beyond. This includes:

Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Nadine J. Kaslow, PhD, ABPP
Assistant Vice Chair for Faculty Development – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion – Erica Marshall Lee, PhD, ABPP
Diversity Leaders Group comprised of the Vice Chair and Assistant Vice Chair, Co-Chairs of the Collective for Faculty Empowerment (CFE), Co-Chairs of the Representation, Empowerment and Community Mission Committee (RECM), and Resident DEI Co-Chiefs
A committee structure that includes the: Diversity Inclusion and Social Justice Committee; Collective for Faculty Empowerment (CFE); Representation Empowerment, and Community Mission Committee (RECM); and Resident DEI Committee

Diversity, Inclusion and Social Justice Committee (DISC)

The mission of DISC is to foster and ensure the sustainability of a culture in which all members of the department feel respected, supported and valued; are recognized for their unique and collective contributions; can engage in dialogue, question, learn and grow; have a sense of belonging within the departmental community; and can contribute meaningfully and to their fullest potential to the departmental and broader community.

Representation, Empowerment and Community Mission Committee (RECM)

The mission of the RECM is to promote awareness of issues related to representation and empowerment among the faculty in our department and to provide a source of safety and support, as well as education and other resources.

Collective for Faculty Empowerment (CFE)

The mission of the CFE is to promote a culture that actively supports the successful professional and personal development of faculty in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences through education, advocacy and mentoring. This committee is open to all members of the department who wish to be in community with and learn more about women faculty members’ experiences in Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences.

Resident DEI Committee

The mission of the Resident DEI Committee is to liaise with residency leadership to promote a welcoming, safe environment for prospective and current residents of all backgrounds and identities.
