Rotations Overview

Pathology Residency Program Curriculum 

The four-year combined track in anatomic and clinical pathology provides broad and comprehensive exposure to all areas of anatomic and clinical pathology. Rotations in anatomic and clinical pathology are spread throughout all four years of training and provide longitudinal exposure to the entirety of the field. Each academic year is composed of 13 rotation blocks.  Rotations take place at Emory University Hospital (EUH), Emory University Hospital Midtown (EUHM), Grady Memorial Hospital (GMH) and Arthur Blank Children`s Hospital.  The AP rotations at EUH and EUHM are subspeciality based, while GMH follows the general sign out model. Surgical pathology rotations include the following subspecialties: gastrointestinal and hepatic, thoracic, head and neck, gynecologic and perinatal, genitourinary and renal, breast and frozen section pathology. Advanced rotations are offered for PGY-2 residents and above with prior exposure to the specific rotation they chose and provide an opportunity for in depth exposure to subspecialities and graduated responsibilities. Senior rotations offer residents a chance to challenge themselves and function at a fellow level. Elective rotations include both advanced/senior AP and CP rotations and protected research time.  All PGY-1 AP and AP/CP residents start their training by spending 2 blocks on the AP Foundation rotation, a comprehensive “on-boarding” to general surgical pathology. Our training program provides flexibility in senior residents` schedule to align with individual interests and carrier goals. A typical resident`s schedule is outlined below:

PGY-3 

• 5 blocks Surgical Pathology (Including Advanced/Senior) 

• 1 block Neuropathology

• 1 block Autopsy 

• 1 block Bone and Soft Tissue Pathology
