GIM at Emory is committed to Health Advocacy, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion at all levels of medical education, training, and provision of care. Researchers at Emory GIM have provided innovative models of advocacy, teaching, and faculty development.

General internists are the front-line of providers for the care of persons with diverse illnesses. General internists are thus uniquely positioned to address health disparities. Health disparities are the preventable differences in the burden of disease, injury, violence, or opportunities to achieve optimal health that are experienced by socially disadvantaged populations. Research@EmoryGIM addresses health disparities on multiple fronts with the goal of improving health equity locally and globally.
