Emory’s Academic Internal Medicine Center (AIM Center) strives to support the academic mission of internal medicine at Emory for the benefit of the faculty, patients, and Division of General Internal Medicine.

What is academic internal medicine?

The Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM) developed an overarching mission stating that their ultimate goal is to transform health care delivery so it meets the needs of our patients, communities, and society, while providing a meaningful and enjoyable career for all members of the health care team.

Specifically, the mission of academic general internal medicine is to lead excellence, change, and innovation in clinical care, education, and research to achieve healthcare delivery that:

Is longitudinal, comprehensive, technologically advanced, and individualized
Instills trust within a culture of respect
Is efficient in the use of time, people, and resources
Is organized and financed to achieve optimal health outcomes
Maximizes equity

Our Faculty

Emory AIM Center Leadership

The AIM Center’s leadership team includes the positions of Director, Co-Director, Director of Program Operations and Finance, three Assistant Directors, and three Site Leads. The Center’s Co-Directors oversee all operations of the AIM Center. Each of the three Assistant Directors oversees a specific AIM Center portfolio (research, faculty development, clinical operations). Our Division and Center leadership has extensive collective experience in research, scholarship, education, and clinical service. Separate Site Leaders are dedicated to overseeing the operation and cohesion of each of the Center’s three clinic sites (1365 Clifton, Midtown, and 1525 Clifton).

The Paul W. Seavey Comprehensive Internal Medicine Clinic, located at 1365 Clifton Rd., is home to The Seavey Primary Care Clinic, Emory Executive Health Center, and Emory Special Diagnostic Services.

Additional updates on Emory AIM Center leadership, faculty development, and strategic planning

Drs. Johnson and Roberts will switch roles

Ted Johnson, MD, MPH, currently Co-Director of the AIM Center, will assume the Director’s role on September 1, 2025. David Roberts, MD, the current AIM Center Director, will assume the Co-Director’s duties. As Director, Dr. Johnson will focus on the priorities of engaging the Grady and VA GIM teams and building division-wide research and faculty development infrastructure and support.

Chakkalakal to lead Seavey Clinic

Rosette Chakkalakal, MD, MHS, will assume the role of Rollins Director of Paul W. Seavey Comprehensive Internal Medicine Clinic as of September 1, 2025. Dr. Chakkalakal is a physician-scientist and academic leader specializing in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes, particularly among underserved and high-risk populations.

Jones named Director of Faculty Development and Promotion

Danielle Jones, MD, FACP is the new Director of Faculty Development and Promotion for the Emory AIM Center Her primary focus will be providing guidance, tools, and encouragement to all GIM faculty for a successful academic promotion journey.

New AIM Center roles for GIM faculty

As of September 1, 2025, Britt Marshall, MD will assume the role of Midtown Site Lead for the Emory Academic Internal Medicine Center and Paula Dibo, MD will assume the role of a supported faculty at the Midtown Site of the Emory Academic Internal Medicine Center.

New Rollins Career Development Awards

Saria Hassan, MD, MPH and Sara Turbow, MD. MPH have been awarded Rollins Career Development awards. This newly funded program for Emory GIM faculty provides essential resources for nationally recognized, early career clinician scientists for a limited time period, helping them move from junior mentored faculty to mid-career and senior independent faculty.
