Mission
The GME Trainee DEI Taskforce aims to:
- Provide a safe and welcoming environment for diverse trainees.
- Promote GME-related diversity, equity and inclusion within Emory School of Medicine through assisting DEI leadership with planning and advertising of cultural, educational, and social events for trainees.
- Partner with university employee resource groups (Emory Black Employee Network and Emory Pride Employee Network), faculty, staff, and student affinity groups, School of Medicine Office of Equity and Inclusion leadership and departmental and program DEI committees.
- Serve as an umbrella organization for all sub-committees and affinity groups within the GME space, including but not limited to:
- GME Pride: Join GME LGBTQ+ listserv
- Under-represented in Medicine (URiM): Join GME URiM Listserv
- Asian, Asian American, and Pacific Islander (AAPI): Join GME AAPI listserv
Leadership
Leadership for the GME Trainee DEI Taskforce consists of an Office of Multicultural Affairs/GME Staff Liaison and a resident leader.
In addition, there will be an advisory board that consists of the following faculty and staff members:
- Sherly Heron, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer and Associate Dean of Community Engagement and Inclusion
- Janice Harewood, Faculty Staff Assistance Program (FSAP) GME Psychologist
- Departmental vice chairs and liaisons for DEI
