Description
The Quiet Excellence Award recognizes faculty members who consistently demonstrate outstanding dedication to their work, often behind the scenes. These faculty may not be in the spotlight, yet their contributions are essential to the success of our department. They are characterized by their: (1) Commitment: Unwavering dedication to their work, consistently going above and beyond expectations; (2) Work ethic: Strong work ethic, dependable and reliable; (3) Collaborative spirit: Effectiveness at working with colleagues, staff and trainees and fostering a positive and supportive environment; and (4) Positive impact: Continuous and meaningful contributions to the department's mission and goals, often through behind-the-scenes efforts.
Each year we will give up to three awards:
- Quiet Excellence Award: Atlanta VA Healthcare System
- Quiet Excellence Award: Emory Healthcare
- Quiet Excellence Award: Grady Health System
Eligibility
Part-time or full-time faculty at any rank within the Emory University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences are eligible to receive the Quiet Excellence Award.
Nominations
A full-time or part-time faculty member, Medical/Clinical Director or Division Chief may submit a nomination. A concise, < 2000-word narrative describing the contributions made by the nominee should accompany the nomination. Additional letters (one page maximum per letter) are welcome. Do not provide more than five letters. These documents should describe the nominee’s contributions to the department in clinical care, research or education and address one or more of the following attributes of the nominee: commitment to high quality work, collaboration and positive impact.
Submissions
Send requests for further information and electronic submissions to Nadine J. Kaslow, PhD, ABPP. Submissions should include the nominating letter, name and contact information of the faculty member being nominated (Word or PDF), and additional letters of support from previous mentees, if applicable. We will accept nominations through midnight EDT July 1, 2025.
Decisions
The departmental award review committee will select the award recipient via an email vote. The Chair of the Department will serve as an ex-officio member of the committee and will have input without a vote. Members of the committee will recuse themselves if they are nominated for a particular award. We will notify award winners by July 31, 2025.
