Promotion for adjunct faculty members is based on the criterion detailed below. Readiness for promotion will be determined with your point people and the Vice Chair for Faculty Development and Community and Belonging. The departmental adjunct faculty promotions committee, comprised of full-time and adjunct faculty, reviews promotion materials for adjunct faculty and recommends an action to the Department Chair and the Vice Chairs.
Adjunct Associate Professor
According to the SOM requirements for appointment and promotion to the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor, the individual must (1) have continuously made clinical, teaching, research and/or service contributions to our department (or at a comparable institution) for at least 10 years (including time as a regular and/or an adjunct faculty member) for 26 hours/year minimum and (2) meet three or more of the following criteria:
- Obtain board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) or the American Board of Psychoanalysis (ABP), board certified diplomate (social work), specialty board certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), recertification in general psychiatry through ABPN
- Receive a local, regional or national award or distinction as a clinician (e.g., Top Doctor, NAMI, AFSP, professional association, Training and Supervising Analyst through the American Association for Psychoanalytic Education)
- Receive a local, regional or national supervisor/teacher/mentor award
- Receive a local, regional or national service award and this may include Fellow status in a professional society
- Present at conferences, meetings or workshops locally, regionally, nationally or internationally
- Offer continuing professional education programs locally, regionally, nationally or internationally
- Publish scholarly work
- Receive Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Award (e.g., Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Member Award, Distinguished Adjunct Faculty Member Community Service Award, division award)
- Engage in significant local, regional or national service work related to the profession/discipline (e.g., committee member or leader on relevant local, national, or international boards/organizations)
Adjunct Professor
According to the SOM requirements for appointment and promotion to the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor, the individual must (1) have continuously made clinical, teaching, research and/or service contributions to our department (or at a comparable institution) for at least five years at the rank of Adjunct Associate Professor (including time as a regular and/or an adjunct faculty member) for 26 hours/year minimum and (2) meet five or more of the following criteria:
- Obtain board certification through the American Board of Professional Psychology (ABPP) or the American Board of Psychoanalysis (ABP), board certified diplomate (social work), specialty board certification through the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), recertification in general psychiatry through ABPN
