Our Commitment
We strive to provide a climate of inclusivity that equally enables each and everyone to achieve their full potential. We believe that the diverse backgrounds and experiences of our local and academic community enrich our academic, educational and health care missions and reinforce our continuous efforts to optimize and ultimately improve healthcare delivery to our diverse patient population.
Our Goals and Objectives
Our program's goals are to:
- Support an equitable and affirming practice environment for clinicians, researchers, staff and learners from diverse backgrounds.
- Enhance recruitment, retention and promotion of those identifying as underrepresented in medicine.
- Provide resources and education to help build awareness on matters related to equity, diversity, inclusion, antiracism and social justice among faculty, staff and learners.
- Encourage and facilitate opportunities for department members to engage in scholarly, research and volunteer activities that address cancer disparities and advance healthcare equity for patients with hematological and oncological disorders.
- Provide educational and research opportunities in cancer and blood disorders to students who come from disadvantaged backgrounds and/or self-identify as underrepresented in medicine.
DEI Council
We are bringing together providers and staff from the Department of Hematology and Medical Oncology to create a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Council (DEIC). We would like the DEIC to be representative of our department and are looking for self-nominations from fellows, postdocs, advanced practice providers, faculty (clinical and nonclinical) and non-academic staff members.
We encourage members at all career stages to self-nominate to fill five positions on the DEIC.
After review of the forms, selected applicants will be requested to schedule an interview with the DEI co-vice chairs before the final selection of DEIC members.
The DEIC responsibilities:
- Advise on DEI strategy and initiatives
- Plan DEI activities
- Provide governance and oversight on DEI efforts
- Promote Department-wide communication on progress of DEI initiatives
- Members are expected to serve for one year, allowing new members to participate more regularly.
- Members are expected to attend monthly meetings.
