
With great enthusiasm, we share news of a significant leadership transition within the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at Emory University. Dr. John Patrick Horton, whose contributions have been integral to our department's growth and success, will step into the role of Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs. The role, until now, has been held by Dr. Penny Castellano, Interim Chair for the Department.
Dr. Horton's journey within our department is marked by an unwavering commitment to advancing divisional and clinical operations. He will continue as Associate Director for Clinical Operations for Emory Healthcare, a role he has held since 2013. His roles as Division Director for General Gynecology and Obstetrics, Interim Operations Director for the Gynecologic Specialties Division, and Director of the Obstetric Rapid Response team reflect his breadth of experience and expertise. Under his guidance, our Generalist Division has thrived, witnessing significant faculty expansion and the addition of three outpatient clinics, fostering an environment of growth and enhanced patient care.
In his new capacity as Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs, Dr. Horton will collaborate closely with the Department Chair and Administrator to provide oversight, coordination, and dynamic leadership across all clinical sites within our department. His responsibilities encompass a broad spectrum aimed at fortifying the clinical operations and ensuring excellence across all affiliated healthcare institutions, including Emory Healthcare, Grady, the VA, and CHOA.
