After a comprehensive search, we are very excited to announce that Dr. Susan C. Modesitt is the new Division Director of Gynecologic Oncology at Emory University, Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics and Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University. Her start date was March 1, 2022.
Dr. Modesitt received her BS in Biology at Emory University. She completed medical school at the University of Virginia, her obstetrics and gynecology residency at the University of North Carolina, and her Gynecologic Oncology fellowship at the M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She was on faculty at both the University of Kentucky and University of Virginia, where she was Division Director since 2007.
Dr. Modesitt is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and the American College of Surgeons and has served in multiple leadership roles and committees for the Society of Gynecologic Oncology, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the NRG Oncology Group. Dr. Modesitt has been named the new Editor in Chief of Gynecologic Oncology Reports and has published over 110 articles, 20 book chapters/invited articles, and has been recognized annually as a Top Doctor for Cancer since 2012 and one of the Exceptional Women in Medicine since 2017.
Her research focuses on hereditary cancers, obesity-related cancers, and clinical trials. Outside of work, Dr. Modesitt loves family cycling trips, swimming, hiking, golf, and, barring injury, does the occasional triathlon or road race.
Dr. Modesitt will be based primarily at Emory University Hospital Midtown and Emory University Hospital.
