Sarah Torzone

Biography

Sarah is an MD-PhD student from Annapolis, Maryland, who graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill with a B.S. in Biology and Medical Anthropology and a minor in Chemistry. At UNC, she conducted research in the lab of Dr. Rob Dowen, where she studied how MAP kinase pathways regulate lipoprotein metabolism in the intestine, and in the lab of Dr. Edward Moreira Bahnson, where she studied the efficacy of antioxidant therapeutics in the treatment of atherosclerosis. Under Dr. Joseph Grover, she also investigated the implementation of EMS personnel in campus-based vaccination efforts for COVID-19/Influenza. After college, Sarah spent two years working full time in Dr. Dowen's lab investigating how a novel potassium channel coordinates intestinal nutrient absorption and fat metabolism.

As an MD-PhD student, Sarah is generally interested in studying the molecular basis of digestive diseases, but she is open to other avenues! Her clinical interests are in internal medicine/gastroenterology and medical oncology, but this too may change!

Outside of the classroom, Sarah loves to try new food around Atlanta and attend music festivals/concerts with friends.
