Biography
Patrick is an MD/PhD student from Northern Virginia who graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) with a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering. His undergraduate research was focused in computational musculoskeletal biomechanics, but he began to pivot to studying cardiovascular mechanics when he completed a M.S. in Biomedical Engineering, also at VCU. During that time, he studied non-invasive characterization of aortic wall strains using magnetic resonance imaging (DENSE MRI) in patients who are at elevated risk for developing aortic dissections or aneurysms.
As an MD/PhD student in Biomedical Engineering, Patrick is interested in the hemodynamic environment of the arterial vasculature and how altered flow regimes can regulate processes at the cellular level. His current clinical interest is in cardiology, where he hopes to work as an academic physician-scientist translating research from the lab to improve patient care.
Outside of the lab, Patrick enjoys going on hiking trips, playing ice hockey, cooking, and exploring Atlanta on foot as much as possible.
