Biography
Tina is an MD-PhD student from Madison, Alabama, who graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham with a B.S. in Neuroscience and minors in Medical Sociology and Chemistry. At UAB, she conducted research in Dr. Scott Wilson's lab in the Department of Neurobiology where she studied the effects of a ubiquitin specific protease on the degradation of several aggregate-prone proteins involved in neurodegenerative diseases. She also explored the effects of a protein involved in the endosomal sorting pathway required for transport (ESCRT) on the progression of Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease.
While at Emory, her PhD work in the Neuroscience Graduate Program investigated the effects of a clinically-relevant electrical stimulation protocol on the regeneration of sympathetic axonal regeneration and functional reinnervation after peripheral nerve injury in the lab of Dr. Jill Ward in the Department of Cell Biology. Her clinical interest lies in plastic and reconstructive surgery with a focus on peripheral nerve repair, and she hopes to continue pursuing related translational research in the future.
Outside of the lab and clinic, Tina enjoys crocheting, pickleball/tennis, painting, playing the violin and piano, exploring local hiking spots, and trying new restaurants.
