Purpose
To mitigate risks associated with fatigue by ensuring residents and fellows have access to reliable, safe transportation from the hospital to their residence following extensive work hours.
Guidelines for Use
- Eligible residents and fellows who have signed the Lyft waiver during onboarding may use the GME Lyft account only when too fatigued to drive safely after completing clinical duties.
- The service is limited to rides from the designated training facility directly to the resident's or fellow's home. Rides to any other destination (e.g., airport or non-home addresses) are strictly prohibited.
- Only the standard (economy) ride option is permitted. Premium services (e.g., Extra Comfort, Black) are not allowed under any circumstances.
Oversight and Communication
- Department leadership and program administrators will be copied on any communications regarding discrepancies or misuse identified during periodic ride audits.
- Charges for rides outside the approved guidelines - or for selecting unauthorized ride types - will require reimbursement by the resident or fellow.
- All ride activity, including receipts, will be logged and reviewed to ensure compliance and fiscal responsibility.
- GME will provide ongoing reminders and clear instructions regarding appropriate ride use through newsletters, email communications, and orientation materials.
How to Join the GME Lyft Account
- Residents and fellows will receive an invitation from Lyft via their netid@emory.edu email address. Check your spam or junk folder if not received.
- Download the Lyft app.
- Set up your profile using your name, phone number, and Emory email address. Do not enter your personal credit card.
- Assign Emory-GME as the default account under your Business Profile.
- Be sure to select your Business Profile when scheduling your ride to bill the fare directly to the Emory-GME account for transportation from the hospital to your home.
