Emory Urology DEI
Dear Visitors,
The Department of Urology is committed to cultivating a diverse and inclusive environment. Our D.E.I. committee exists to foster an environment of mutual respect of ideas and culture, irrespective of race, creed, religion or sexual orientation and gender, through continued education, service and departmental/community engagement.
To accomplish these goals, we have designed and implemented a strategic plan aligned with the Emory University School of Medicine Diversity Council, programmed a “Disparities in Urology” Speaker Series with Grand Rounds speakers as well as Lunch & Learn sessions, integrated Affinity month newsletters and celebrations, augmented our community engagement and outreach initiatives, and committed departmental/institutional resources to improve accessibility and healthcare equity for our patients.
These efforts have allowed our team to come together in an intentional manner to acknowledge deeply rooted healthcare disparities and inequities, determine ways we can bridge these gaps, recognize and celebrate the cultural identities and backgrounds of our team members, and promote open conversation and inquiry.
Emory Urology was recently recognized for its high proportion of women faculty, which is amongst the highest in the nation. Our department continues to empower our women faculty in prominent leadership roles. While our department is excelling in certain aspects of diversity, there is significant room to continue expanding and elevating our range and scope. Given the wide racial and ethnic diversity of the Metro Atlanta area, we hope that as our clinical team continues to expand, representation in our department will increasingly mirror that of the populations we are serving. Recruitment of diverse staff, including women and underrepresented minority residents and faculty remains a major priority for the department to accomplish this goal.
At Emory Urology, we pledge to continue to foster a culture of acceptance, inclusivity, and respect in our community. Our varied backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives is our greatest source of strength and innovation. We must be deliberate in how we grow our team, foster our existing relationships, and harness our collective power. We are so proud of the work we have done so far in our department, and we are excited to see what progress the upcoming years will bring.
