Dr. Michael Lowe appointed Vice Chair of Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development

Michael Lowe, MD, has accepted the offer to become Vice Chair, Faculty Affairs and Faculty Development for the Department of Surgery, effective July 1, 2025.
We look forward to having Dr. Lowe expand his impact and the future of faculty affairs across the Department under his leadership. Dr. Lowe will report to and serve as a senior advisor to the Department Chair and the Chair leadership team, advance the professional development of our faculty, create and implement individual professional development plans, support faculty recruitment and retention, and energize an engaged faculty community.
Dr. Lowe received his MD from Georgetown University School of Medicine. He served as administrative chief resident during his general surgery residency at the Emory University Department of Surgery. He joined the Emory faculty after completing a fellowship in complex general surgical oncology (CGSO) at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and is currently Associate Professor in the Division of Surgical Oncology. His clinical practice focuses on cutaneous malignancies and his research interests include neoadjuvant clinical trials in melanoma and novel therapy development tested in the neoadjuvant setting. He leads the Melanoma Program at the Winship Cancer Institute and serves as the Working Group Chair, overseeing the clinical trial portfolio for the program. He serves as Chair of the Protocol Review and Monitoring Committee in the Winship Clinical Trials Office and Director of the Extramural Studies Program for the Emory General Surgery residency. He has also served on the Emory University School of Medicine Recognitions Committee and Faculty Development Advisory Committee, giving him ample insight to the faculty affairs and development programs offered by the School of Medicine.
