The residency program only accepts individuals from: (1) a doctoral program in health service psychology (e.g., clinical, counseling, school) that is accredited by the APA or the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS); and (2) a doctoral internship program in health service psychology that is accredited by the APA a or PCSAS. Applications also are welcome from individuals with a doctorate in psychology and respecialization training that occurs within the context of an APA or PCSAS accredited doctoral program and doctoral internship that meets equivalent criteria. Individuals may not begin their postdoctoral training experience until they complete all requirements for the doctoral degree.
We welcome and encourage applications from trainees from historically underrepresented groups (e.g., BIPOC, neurodiverse, sexual minority, disabilities). International students also are welcome and encouraged to apply; Emory has trained multiple international students and we value their diverse backgrounds and perspectives. Prior to acceptance into the program, applicants participate in a comprehensive selection process and are interviewed by both faculty members associated with their positions of interest and current residents in these positions. Upon completion of these interviews, each evaluator completes a competency-based Postdoctoral Residency Applicant Interview Form and only those individuals whose competency ratings are consistent with those expected for readiness to begin postdoctoral residency training are considered appropriate candidates for acceptance into the program.
