The Emory Eye Center celebrated Dr. Morton Waitzman’s 102nd birthday with a special luncheon honoring him and his wife, Aviva, as they mark 78 years of marriage. Before being recruited to the Emory Eye Center by Dr. F. Phinizy Calhoun, Jr., Dr. Waitzman served as a professor and director of ophthalmology research at Case Western Reserve University.

Dr. Linjiang Lou Awarded 2025–2026 Knights Templar Eye Foundation Career Starter Research Grant
Dr. Linjiang Lou has been awarded the prestigious Knights Templar Eye Foundation (KTEF) Career Starter Research Grant for 2025–2026. This grant supports early-career researchers conducting work that advances the understanding, prevention, and treatment of pediatric eye diseases and conditions. Dr. Lou will receive $89,857 in support of their research.

Optometry resident gains professional recognition
If Boris Severinsky, OD, FAAO, FBCLA, FSLS ever had any doubts about Emory Eye Center’s first optometry resident, Aysha Shafi, they were put soundly to rest earlier this month when he read the latest edition of I-Site, an international specialty contact lens newsletter.
