The ten ophthalmology specialty fellowships
Annually, the Emory Eye center accepts between 12 and 14 qualified physicians for one of our nine subspecialty fellowships. Most applications for medical subspecialty fellowships are processed through the San Francisco Match program, described below. The Neuro-ophthalmology section offers an additional fellowship - the international clinical research fellowship - whose candidates are screened and evaluated on an individual basis. The post-doctoral research fellowships are processed though our Research Division. Please visit the fellowship pages, listed below, for details on each fellowship opportunity.
The fellowship application process
NOTE: The following applies to medical fellowships. Post-doctoral research fellowships should refer to the Post-doctoral Research Program for specific application information.
For most Emory Eye Center fellowships, the selection process begins the previous year, between June and September, when the Selection Committee for all medical fellowship specialties begins reviewing applications. In most cases, final candidates for each fellowship are invited for an in-person or remote interview later in the fall.
Candidates for medical fellowships should anticipate having their Georgia medical license prior to the formal start of their fellowship. Where appropriate, applicants should familiarize themselves with the Requirements for Foreign Medical School Graduates. In most cases, select fellow applicants will be contacted in September for a virtual interview later in the fall.
In general,* all fellowship candidates should:
- Review the Emory Eye Center fellowships, listed above, to find the right fit. Some offer more than one opening.
- Register at SF Match, the residency and fellowship matching service. Note: the post-doctoral fellowships have a different registration process.
- Submit a formal application for an Emory Eye Center fellowship through the SF Match's Central Application System by August 31. (October 10 for GO-E)
- Email the following items directly to the Emory Eye Center fellowship coordinator, KimberLe' Parker-Taylor once their CAS application has been submitted:
- Current headshot
- Current mailing address and phone
- Letter from the current department chair
- Letter from the current residency director
* Candidates for the international neuro-ophthalmology clinical research fellowship will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Requirements, deadlines and other details can be found on the Neuro-Ophthalmology Fellowship page.
As employees of Emory Healthcare, all Emory Eye Center subspecialty fellows receive 20 days of vacation time, standard holidays, and time consideration to attend professional conferences and seminars. Emory University and Emory Healthcare are Affirmative Action/Equal Opportunity Employers.
