The fellowship training experience is a minimum of two years. The focus of Year 1 is clinical training in infectious diseases. During this time, ID fellows participate in a wide variety of direct patient care rotations and learning experiences designed to teach all six competencies, as well as a range of formal didactic and educational conferences. Year 2 and beyond are focused primarily on mentored research activities and training. Although all ACGME and ABIM requirements are met in the first two years of training, three or more years of subspecialty training (primarily for research training) is strongly encouraged for those fellows pursuing a career in academic medicine, clinical investigation, or public health.
Clinical Training
The clinical experiences afforded to ID fellow trainees include opportunities to manage adult patients with a wide variety of infectious diseases on both an inpatient and an ambulatory basis.
Research Training
The ID fellowship program places a strong emphasis on mentored clinical, translational and laboratory-based research training.
Educational Conferences
Our fellows participate in multiple regularly scheduled core educational conferences within the Emory ID Division.
