Lauren Stupp grew up in Milton, Ga and was introduced to the field of genetic counseling in high school. She graduated from the University of Georgia in December 2021 with a bachelor's degree in Genetics with a minor of Human Services. At UGA, Lauren worked under the National Science Foundation and Department of Energy to study the genetic relationship between arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi and sorghum plants and presented her research at the UGA’s 2021 REU Virtual Symposium.
After graduation, Lauren worked as a genetic counseling assistant for Emory Healthcare at Winship Cancer Institute for over two years. As a GCA, she had the opportunity to assist with administrative tasks, shadow in different genetic counseling clinics, build strong relationships with cancer patients and providers, develop a handbook for GCA workflows, and receive an Emory Healthcare Service Hero Award. She continued to expand her experience in genetics by volunteering with FORCE and completing the University of South Carolina’s “Genetic Counseling: Career for the Future “Course.
In her free time, Lauren enjoys Orangetheory classes, playing with her dog, grabbing coffee with friends, thrifting, baking cakes, and exploring Atlanta. As someone who relied strongly on the guidance from her mentors and previous students during the application process, she would love to chat with any prospective students. Lauren is extremely appreciative of everyone who helped her in her journey to graduate school and is thrilled to be in Emory’s GCTP class of 2026!
