Origin of the DOHG DEI Committee
A DEI Task Force was created in the summer of 2020 in response to the racial violence and systemic racism brought to the forefront by the deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor. The goals of the Task Force were to identify existing problems and prioritize short-term and long-term actions to improve our environment and define our metrics of DEI. Once the plan was finalized, this standing DEI Committee was created to identify and implement activities to meet the priorities defined.
Mission and Vision
Our mission is to increase the health equity and quality of life for all individuals through education, basic and clinical research, and clinical care, using human genetics as the foundation.
Our vision is the development of a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment which engages people from demographics that have historically been excluded in genetics education and research.
