I chose Family Medicine because it perfectly embodies the “why” behind my pursuit of becoming a doctor. The opportunity to build long-lasting relationships, care for all ages, possess a tremendous breadth of knowledge - all while serving as a frontline advocate for community health - made it clear that it was the specialty for me. Family Medicine, through and through, is a specialty where we get to meet people where they are. We have the chance to peel back the layers of what could truly be bringing a patient to us because we can build the trust for that kind of openness. That is of immeasurable value to me and is the root of my passion for Family Medicine.
When researching programs, Emory Family Medicine stood out to me immediately. I was impressed by the standard of excellence in medical education, robust training opportunities, and strong commitment to community engagement and advocacy at Emory. I knew, in terms of training, that I would have everything I would need to be able to become the physician I want to be for my community. What truly set Emory apart, though, was the sense of community and comradery that I felt during my interview, social event, and second look. My interactions with the residents and faculty - as well as seeing how happy with, supportive of, and invested in each other they were - left me feeling welcomed and inspired. I could tell deep down that being at Emory was the right fit for me. I am incredibly thankful to join the Emory Family Medicine family and to have the opportunity to serve the people of Atlanta!
