I chose Family Medicine because it serves as the backbone of the medical community, and more specifically, plays a pivotal role in helping patients navigate the complexities of healthcare in the United States. Clinically, I also enjoy working and finding the interconnections of presentations across a variety of organ systems in all patient populations, as well as deducing what the major drivers affecting a patient’s health are, from lifestyle to social determinants.
Along the interview trail, the Emory Family Medicine residency program stood out to me in several ways. Academically, not only does the program provide a comprehensive education in all my areas of interest (and more!), but I would also be getting exposure to a wide variety of clinical presentation and pathologies in the diverse community that is Atlanta. It was also clear from speaking to the residents that throughout the vigorous training, the faculty and staff provide a healthy and nurturing environment for professional and personal growth. Finally, Emory’s dedication to discovering and disseminating knowledge, creating cross-culturally competent physicians, and staying at the forefront of medical innovation aligns with my personal goals, and I was eager to be a part of the legacy of Emory University Healthcare.
