When I imagined being a doctor, I could only imagine being a family medicine physician. I wanted to be the person that knows my patients’ whole story and could guide their care in a way that reflects their unique history and lifestyle. I wanted to be the one to help connect the dots: coordinating care with other providers, tailoring treatment, and building lasting relationships. Ultimately, what excited me most was the “family” aspect of family medicine. Being able to care for parents, grandparents, and children all at once is an immense privilege. I felt I could have the most positive impact for future patients as a family medicine physician.
I chose the Emory Family Medicine Residency Program because I knew this program also greatly valued family in all forms. As a medical student at Emory, I felt the deep sense of community among the residents and faculty. They treated each other like family, and the warmth and support I felt from them left a lasting impression on me. As a Georgia-native, I also wanted to continue learning to care for the unique needs of patients in this state, especially the metro-Atlanta area. Working with a diverse and underserved population is important to me, and the extensive focus that Emory Family Medicine has on community service and engagement was exactly what I was looking for. I am thrilled to continue my learning as a family medicine physician at Emory and serve the community that helped shape who I am today.
