Family Medicine gives you the opportunity to develop relationships, and I think the ability to sit down one-on-one with a patient and get to know them is what drew me to the field. I particularly like how being a family physician allows you to interact with patients at all stages of life, across all ages, and not necessarily only when a patient is ill or in crisis. My goal as a family medicine physician is to keep patients healthy, so that they can continue to enjoy whatever things may be important to them as an individual.
As a Georgia native, I was initially drawn to Emory Family Medicine for the opportunity to stay in my home state to train. Also, the program’s curriculum, opportunities for specialty tracks, and the facilities the residents train were excellent. What truly sold me on the program though, were the residents and the faculty. Everyone was gracious, kind, and welcoming, and it was readily apparent that there was a family atmosphere within the program.
