I chose Family Medicine because of my passion for building relationships with patients and my desire to provide care for individuals of all ages, from infants to the elderly. What attracted me to Family Medicine is its unique role as the first point of contact before specialists are involved, requiring a blend of extensive medical knowledge and strong human connections. Growing up in Japan, I took easy access to medical care for granted. Healthcare disparity is a significant problem in this country. Upon encountering numerous individuals who lacked basic medical treatment that could have prevented more severe illnesses, I felt a deep commitment to providing accessible care as a primary care physician.
My impression of Emory was overwhelmingly positive due to its diversity, commitment to delivering high-quality training, and emphasis on resident wellness. The program at Emory stood out to me for its comprehensive approach, fostering a collaborative and supportive learning environment. Throughout the interview process and social events, I had the opportunity to interact with residents and faculty, all of whom consistently expressed their admiration for the people they worked with at Emory. This aspect spoke volumes to me and solidified my belief that Emory was the perfect fit for me.
