I chose Family Medicine because of my desire to develop meaningful relationships with people while being able to serve as the primary supporter for an individual patient. Family medicine is one of the few specialties where establishing and growing relationships set the foundation for practice. I strive to work with patients as individuals to optimize their health and emphasize preventative care.
I was looking for a larger Family Medicine program that would allow me to train in an academic program with an urban underserved patient population. One of the most important factors for me was diversity within the residents and faculty, which is very apparent with this program! I also wanted to be a part of a program that allowed for growth and clinical opportunities in many different areas within the spectrum of Family Medicine.
