The Emory Department of Emergency Medicine prides itself as being committed to all communities including the LGBTQIA+ community and their allies. We embody this mission through the LGBTQIA+ Subcommittee of our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee. This committee is open to all department members: faculty, residents, fellows, staff, and APPs.
Who are we?
We are a group of residents, faculty, advanced practice providers, and staff that have come together with the common goal to improve our work environment and quality of care for our patients. We are creating a community where everyone feels safe. We are educating our department, thereby creating a more inclusive and safer environment for our patients.
What we do
- We have bimonthly outings within the department that create a safe place where people can socialize outside of work.
- We are involved in the Emory GME LGBTQIA+ community and we are active members in the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Pride Affinity Group. We are mentors/mentees in the GME mentorship program.
- We are involved in the community within Atlanta. We work the medical tents at the Atlanta Pride Festival, support the Emory Vaccine Center’s AIDS vaccine, and visibly promote the message of Emory EM.
- We plan social media live sessions for prospective applicants and events for the new interns during orientation.
- We educate and lecture within our department and nationally on LGBTQIA+ health, disparities, and allyship. We are actively engaged in research to promote and foster inclusivity within our community.
