“If I match at Emory, I know I will get amazing clinical training and be able to continue doing research with my mentors.”

Humphrey Pruett, 2025 Doctor of Medicine (MD) candidate, Emory School of Medicine, is from Minneapolis, Minnesota. He studied physics at Kenyon College in Ohio while participating in the varsity swim program. At Kenyon College, he met fellow swimmer and molecular biology student Abby Wilson, 24M, whom he eventually joined at Emory. After earning his undergraduate degree, Humphrey enrolled at the University of Minnesota’s Master of Science in Stem Cell Biology. While studying for his master’s degree, he coached a high school swim team.
Humphrey dived headfirst into life at Emory, "I feel like I've found my people after getting to know the amazing faculty members in the department of internal medicine." The MD program allowed him once-in-a-lifetime opportunities like learning to read electrocardiograms (EKG) from cardiology pioneer Nanette Wenger (cardiology). “It was incredible to have exposure to such an absolute legend and being able to teach the EKG to first-year medical students," he says. Humphrey also contributed curriculum design to the Center for Holistic Student Success’ peer tutoring program. Clinical training at Grady Memorial Hospital allowed him to serve the community and hone his skills at one of the premier trauma centers in the United States. He summarizes these experiences, saying, "I can't imagine a better residency program."
While taking an elective on medical education, Humphrey discovered a deep passion for collaborative learning. He brought this passion to the peer tutoring program, where he developed a tutor training workshop. Humphrey collaborated with fellow lead tutors MopeninuJesu Oluyinka, 26M, and Makenna Ash, 25M, to build weekly review sessions supporting second-year medical students. "While it's been a great deal of work this year, I have found teaching incredibly satisfying," he says, adding, "I'm hopeful that both the [United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE)] Step 1 review sessions and Step 1 tutor training continue for future years."
Match Day 2025 will reveal the next chapter in Humphrey’s internal medicine training. “If I match at Emory, I know I will get amazing clinical training and be able to continue doing research with my mentors.” While at Emory, Humphrey contributed to a research paper alongside his mentors Pedro Lamothe Molina (medicine) and Frances Eun-Hyung Lee (medicine).
In 2024, Abby Wilson and Humphrey tied the knot. Abby is currently an internal medicine/psychiatry intern at Emory. Although it's unclear where he will head next, he asserts, "My goal is to stay at Emory." As he reflects on his time in the MD program, Humphrey is grateful for the camaraderie and community service. He is confident that Emory has undeniably shaped his personal growth, establishing a profound support system extending far beyond his medical training into his career as a compassionate and dedicated internal medicine physician.
During Match Day Humphrey learned he matched at Emory in internal medicine.
