Lee, Peery receive Heyman Family awards for fragile X research

JANUARY 2025
Congratulations to Emily Peery and Azalea Lee, this year’s recipients of Heyman Family Fund awards for trainees engaged in fragile X-related research. Gail Heyman was a co-founder of the Fragile X Association of Georgia and remains a long-time supporter of fragile X research at Emory.
These $5000 awards support trainees in pursuing professional development, research or travel opportunities. Emily, a genetic counseling student, is testing an educational tool for women with fragile X-associated primary ovarian insufficiency (FXPOI), while Azalea, an MD/PhD student, is examining the RNAs bound and regulated by FMRP and (separately) identifying genetic modifiers of seizures in fragile X syndrome.
