Meghan Werner grew up just outside of Boston, MA and was introduced to the field of genetic counseling during a high school biology class. She graduated from Clemson University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and a minor in Spanish Studies. During her undergraduate career, she volunteered as a crisis counselor for Mental Health America in Greenville, SC. She also completed a summer internship with the National Tay Sachs and Allied Diseases Association (NTSAD), where she helped translate and create patient-facing materials for their family conferences.
After college, she moved back home to Boston where she began working at Boston Children’s Hospital. Here she worked as a clinical research assistant on the VIGOR study, which offers remote genomic sequencing for patients at safety-net NICUs across the country. Meghan’s role included consenting and enrolling patients for whole genome sequencing, and interviewing participants to gain their perspective on receiving genetic testing. Meghan primarily devoted her time to Spanish-speaking participants in the study, as she is also a certified medical interpreter through the NBCMI. She is looking forward to continuing her work in supporting Spanish-speaking populations throughout her graduate and professional career.
In her free time, Meghan loves running, baking, hanging out with her furry friends, and exploring new places in Atlanta. She is very grateful to be joining Emory GCTP and is happy to answer any questions from prospective students!
