Julia was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. She graduated from the University of Florida in May of 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology & Cell Science and Psychology. Although she entered college as an undecided major, she discovered the field of genetic counseling during her late freshman year through an internet search. She quickly realized it aligned with both her scientific curiosity and passion for supporting others.
While completing her undergraduate degree, she had the opportunity to work as a Genetic Counseling Intern at UF’s Cancer Center in their Hereditary Cancer Program. She also volunteered on a pediatric immunocompromised unit at UF Shands Hospital and served as a counselor on the local county’s 24/7 crisis helpline. These experiences deepened her commitment to patient interaction and advocacy and affirmed her desire to pursue genetic counseling.
After graduation, Julia moved back to South Florida where she worked with donor gametes in a Reproductive Genetics Department as a Genetic Counseling Administrative Coordinator. In this role, she gained exposure to donor screening and management and communicated with intended parents, donor-conceived persons, and fertility providers.
In her free time, Julia loves exploring new places and restaurants, diving into a good book, and listening to music. She is so excited to be a part of Emory’s Genetic Counseling Training Program! Julia welcomes outreach from prospective students and is happy to answer any questions about the program and application process.
