Kyra Tennyson grew up in Memphis, Tennessee. She graduated from the University of Georgia in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science in Genetics and a minor in Spanish. While at UGA, she participated as a student volunteer at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Piedmont Hospital, where she developed a passion for patient interaction and advocacy. Kyra’s love for learning and working with patients led her to explore a career in genetic counseling.
After graduation, Kyra moved to Atlanta, where she started a job as a genetic counseling assistant with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Cardiology. In this role, she gained exposure to cardiovascular genetic counseling and learned more about caring for patients with inherited heart disease. During this time, she became confident that genetic counseling was a perfect field to combine her interest in genetics with her desire to support patients with complex medical needs.
In her free time, Kyra enjoys yoga, baking, spending time outdoors, trying new restaurants, and listening to live music. She is thrilled to be a part of Emory’s program and would love to speak with students about the program or application process.
