Over the years, it has evolved from a small community ED to a high-acuity, high-volume academic department staffed by 53 Emergency Medicine physicians and Advanced Practice Providers. A significant portion of this growth has occurred in the past three to five years. In 2018 EUHM entered into a partnership with Kaiser Permanente for inpatient and surgical services.
The EUHM ED serves as a secondary site for the Emory EM Residency program and specializes in teaching community emergency medicine concepts, including department management, patient flow, and efficient electronic medical record documentation. Though many residents may not practice in such a high-volume, tertiary care facility after graduation, we have designed the experience at EUHM ED to prepare graduates to practice independently in any environment after completing their training.
