Overview
The Global Health and Equity Office (GLOBE Office) at the Emory School of Medicine is pleased to announce a formal Call for Applications to support Emory GME Residents and Fellows (trainees) during international rotations. Established to foster global engagement and advance resident education, this initiative provides support for rotations at partner institutions where long-standing collaborations exist.
This funding initiative reflects our commitment to strengthening institutional partnerships and enhancing cultural competency among our trainees. Funding will support GME trainee salary for up to four weeks during the approved international rotation.

Eligibility & Requirements
- Participants must be Emory GME residents or fellows at the PGY-3 level or higher.
- Applicants must be in good standing with their residency/fellowship program and the Emory Graduate Medical Education Office.
- Required Approvals: Prior to applying, trainees must obtain formal approval from their Department Chair or Division Director and their Residency/Fellowship Program Director.
Application Components
Applications must be submitted via the Online Submission Form.
The following documents are required:
1. Statement of Purpose (SOP): Maximum 2 pages, 1-inch margins, minimum 11-point font.- Personal Statement: Describe your motivation for applying and your personal definition of "Global Health."
- Goals & Objectives: Outline the specific clinical or educational goals for your rotation.
- Institutional Contribution & Professional Development: Describe how your participation will enhance medical and postgraduate education at the partner institution. Additionally, outline how this rotation aligns with your long-term career objectives and contributes to your professional growth.
- Logistics: Provide an estimated timeline and a plan for travel and lodging support.
2. Curriculum Vitae (CV): Please provide a brief, up-to-date CV highlighting relevant clinical and global health experience.
3. Project/Rotation details: This includes details regarding the partnership, location, rotation dates, faculty information and project/rotation proposal.
4. Letters of Support: Applications must include four distinct letters of support:- Program Director (PD): Must detail the rotation structure, oversight/supervision plans (including Emory faculty involvement), and a commitment to adhere to Emory GME international rotation requirements.
- Chair or Division Director: Must confirm support for the trainee's rotation and faculty supervision.
- Emory Faculty Supervisor: A letter from the Emory faculty member providing oversight during the rotation.
- Partner Institution: A letter from the host faculty member at the international partner institution confirming supervision and the rotation schedule.
Selection Process
Recipients will be selected by the Selection Committee, comprised of Emory faculty experts engaged in global health. Selection is based on the quality of the application, the strength of the partnership, and the applicant's commitment to global health and department support.
Funding is available to support up to two trainees this year.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- Is this only available to trainees in a Global Health track? It is open to all eligible PGY-3+ trainees. However, priority will be given to trainees with formal global health education, including those enrolled in their department’s global health track or those who obtained a degree or have existing global health experience prior to or during residency/fellowship.
- Do I need to have faculty mentorship? Yes. All rotations require oversight by an Emory faculty member. While the faculty member is not required to travel to the site, it is highly encouraged.
